Unlink Microsoft Project from Altus
Unlinking removes the connection between the Microsoft Project file and the Altus project.
You can unlink from:
- Altus
- Microsoft Project
Note
Access to unlinking is controlled by configuration settings. If you cannot perform this task, contact your administrator.
Before you unlink
Review what should happen to the tasks in Altus.
| Option | What happens | Use when |
|---|---|---|
| Delete synced tasks | Removes the synced tasks from Altus Tasks. | The tasks should no longer remain in Altus. |
| Leave tasks in place | Removes the Microsoft Project connection but keeps the tasks in Altus. | You want to keep the schedule data in Altus, such as for migration. |
Warning
If you unlink the Microsoft Project file and leave tasks in Altus, the Altus scheduling tool may recalculate the tasks.
Microsoft Project allows detailed task assignments that may not be controlled in the same way in Altus Tasks. Altus may recalculate effort, duration, and assignments based on task type and resource percentage.
For more information, see Altus Task Types.

Unlink from Microsoft Project
Open the project file in Microsoft Project.
Open the Altus ribbon.
Click Linked Project Settings.
Click Unlink Altus Project.

A data loss warning displays.
The warning explains that if the Microsoft Project file is disconnected from Altus and tasks are left in Altus, the tasks may look different in Altus Tasks. Timesheet imports may also update manually entered actual values because Altus Tasks does not contain the same time-phased detail as Microsoft Project.
- Click Yes to continue.
The Unlink from Altus Project window opens.

Select one of the following options:
- Keep tasks: unlinks the project from Microsoft Project and leaves the tasks in Altus
- Delete tasks: unlinks the project from Microsoft Project and removes all synced tasks from Altus Tasks
Note
If tasks have not been published to Altus, the option to keep or delete tasks is skipped.
Click Unlink.

Click Close.
The project is now unlinked.
Use Altus for Project for migration
You can use Altus for Project to help migrate schedule data from Microsoft Project to Altus.
To do this:
- Link the Microsoft Project file to an Altus project.
- Publish the tasks to Altus.
- Unlink the Microsoft Project file from Altus.
- Choose to keep the tasks in Altus.
This leaves the published tasks in Altus Tasks and removes the connection to the Microsoft Project file.
Note
After unlinking, the tasks are managed in Altus. Altus scheduling behaviour may differ from Microsoft Project scheduling behaviour.
