Power Bi connection to Excel
This feature allows users to connect to a Power BI dataset in Excel. Once the connection has been made, users can set-up and maintain a single Excel file and refresh the data to update their Excel file. The refresh frequency of the initial Power BI dataset will determine how up-to-date the data in Excel is.
For Example: if the Power BI dataset is only set to update once a day, the data in your Excel file only needs to be refreshed once a day.
If you have access to the Power BI workspace you can set this up. The Power BI workspace is available through the waffle.

- Open the report you want to connect to in the Power Bi App (you cannot connect through the report link in Altus because the menus etc. are stripped out)
- From the report menu select Export > Analyze in Excel.
A progress message will display on the top right-hand side of the screen. When the Excel file is ready a confirmation message will display which provides you with a link to the Excel file.
- Click Open in Excel for the web.
- Excel will open and give you a warning message, as it is accessing external data. Click Yes (if you are happy to).
Excel will now connect to the data and provide you with the fields from the Power BI dataset in the PivotTable Fields pane. You can now setup your report in Excel using these fields.

You only need to follow the above process initially. Once you have created the connection you only need to refresh the data (from the Data menu in Excel) to get the latest data. This data will be the latest data based on the latest Power BI sync.
