Unlink an external schedule from Altus

Unlinking removes the connection between an Altus project and its external schedule. If synced tasks exist in Altus, you choose whether to keep or delete them before the connection is removed.

When synced tasks exist in Altus, choose what should happen to them before you unlink.

Choose one of the following options.

Keep tasks in Altus

Continue managing these tasks in the Altus schedule. These tasks can’t be linked back to an external schedule.

Choose this when you want to keep the synced tasks and continue managing them in the Altus schedule.

When you choose Keep tasks in Altus:

  • The connection to the external schedule is removed.
  • The tasks remain in Altus.
  • Continue managing these tasks in the Altus schedule.
  • These tasks can’t be linked back to an external schedule.
  • If all Altus tasks are later deleted, another external schedule can be linked.

Delete tasks from Altus

Delete the synced tasks from Altus. The external schedule remains unchanged, and existing timesheet history is retained.

Choose this when you want to delete the current synced tasks from Altus—for example, because you linked the wrong schedule or want to connect a different one.

When you choose Delete tasks from Altus:

  • The synced Altus tasks are deleted.
  • The deletion itself cannot be undone or restored.
  • The external schedule remains unchanged.
  • Approved timesheet history is retained.
  • Another external schedule can be linked once the Altus project has no active tasks.

If there are no synced tasks in Altus

If the Altus project has no synced tasks, there is no task decision to make. The confirmation displays:

There are no synced tasks in Altus to keep or delete.

No Keep or Delete options are shown. Confirming the unlink removes the connection between the Altus project and the external schedule only.

From Altus — any supported external schedule

Use this flow for a supported external schedule, such as Planner or Microsoft Project:

  1. Open the linked project in Altus.
  2. Go to Details.
  3. Select the external-project link indicator.
  4. Choose Unlink Project.
  5. If synced tasks exist in Altus, choose whether to Keep tasks in Altus or Delete tasks from Altus.
  6. If there are no synced tasks in Altus, review the confirmation: “There are no synced tasks in Altus to keep or delete.”
  7. Confirm Unlink.

From Microsoft Project

  1. Open the linked project file in Microsoft Project.
  2. Open the Altus ribbon.
  3. Choose Linked Project Settings.
  4. Select Unlink Altus Project.
  5. If synced tasks exist in Altus, choose whether to Keep tasks in Altus or Delete tasks from Altus.
  6. If there are no synced tasks in Altus, review the confirmation: “There are no synced tasks in Altus to keep or delete.”
  7. Confirm Unlink.

Frequently asked questions

Does deleting synced tasks change my external schedule?

No. Deleting synced tasks affects only the Altus-side tasks. The external schedule remains unchanged.

What happens to approved timesheet history if I delete synced tasks?

Existing approved timesheet history is retained. Historical entries remain associated with the removed task and can indicate that the task is no longer part of the current schedule.

Not while those tasks remain in the Altus project. If all Altus tasks are later deleted, the project becomes eligible to link to another external schedule again.

Yes. Once the Altus project has no active tasks, another external schedule can be linked and tasks can be published again.

The previously deleted Altus tasks are not restored. When the external project is linked and its tasks are published again, they are treated as new Altus tasks.

Previously retained timesheet history remains associated with the removed task records rather than being reassigned to the newly published tasks.
